Product Description

Lido caine is a local anesthetic and antiarrhythmic drug. Clinically used for infiltration anesthesia, epidural anesthesia, topical anesthesia (including mucosal anesthesia in thoracoscopic or abdominal surgery), and nerve block.

Lido caine is an amide local anesthetic. With the increase of the dose, the effect or toxicity increases, it has anticonvulsant effect, and the blood concentration is sub-toxic; convulsions may occur when the blood concentration exceeds 5μg•ml-1.

Low-dose lido caine can promote the K+ outflow of cardiomyocytes, reduce myocardial autonomy, and have anti-arrhythmic effects. Elevated plasma concentrations may result in slowing of cardiac conduction, atrioventricular block, myocardial contractility inhibition, and reduced cardiac output.

Function

This medication is used on the skin to stop itching and pain from certain skin conditions (e.g., scrapes, minor burns, eczema, insect bites) and to treat minor discomfort and itching caused by hemorrhoids and certain other problems of the genital/anal area (e.g., anal fissures, itching around the va gina/rectum).

Some forms of this medication are also used to decrease discomfort or pain during certain medical procedures/exams (e.g., sigmoidoscopy, cystoscopy). Lido caine hcl is a local anesthetic that works by causing temporary numbness/loss of feeling in the skin and mucous membranes.

Applictaion

Topical lido caine has been shown in some patients to relieve the pain of postherpetic neuralgia (a complication of shingles), though there is not enough study evidence to recommend it as a first-line treatment. IV lido caine also has uses as a temporary fix for tinnitus. Although not completely curing the disorder, it has been shown to reduce the effects by around two thirds.

Lido caine injection administered intravenously or intramuscularly, is specifically indicated in the acute management of ventricular arrhythmias such as those occurring in relation to acute myocardial infarction, or during cardiac manipulation, such as cardiac surgery.
